Marie has been creating beauty with her hands since she was a child. Knitting, beadwork, sewing, and quilting became lifelong companions. With each new experience, she delighted in the endless possibilities of complex forms and brilliant tones.
When Marie moved to Oregon nearly thirty five years ago, she discovered two new passions: birding and basketry. “In Honor of the Winged Nation” is her basket series that combines those two loves by celebrating the colors and designs of the birds that live around her.
As a bookkeeper by trade, Marie appreciates the order and beauty of mathematics. That appreciation is reflected in her basket patterns. Each time she walks in nature, she witnesses more of that remarkable order: the beauty inherent in the natural environment, the play of light and shadow, and each element balancing with the harmony of the whole.
